Finding the Perfect Wedding Day Hairstyle

When choosing the perfect hairstyle for your wedding day, there are many factors to consider: dress style, hair length, if you are wearing a veil, if you want to wear flowers in your hair, if you prefer a beaded headband, etc. Most of all, the hairstyle you end up choosing will depend on the dress you say “Yes” to. For example, if you have a dress with an elaborate back you may want to do an up-do so as not to hide the beautiful detail in the dress. You will want to find the hairstyle that best compliments you and your dress. Make sure to take pictures of you in the dress when you try it on so you can show your hairstylist when you do the bridal hair trial. Here are a few ideas for picking the right hairstyle for your big day, with some visual inspiration from a few amazing area wedding vendors: Photo Elegance, Keith Lee Studios, Stems Florist, and

Ways to Wear Veil

There are many ways to wear a veil on your wedding day, here are a few ideas:

  • The first is to place the veil on the nape of the neck just under your up do. This will allow the veil to fall gently down your back.

  • If you are doing both a veil and a tiara or beaded headband you want to make sure to place both at the same height.

  • If you have long hair, wearing your hair half up and half down will make sure that the veil stays secure and compliments your hair length.

  • All traditional veils; elbow length, fingertip, chapel, and cathedral styles, can be worn with or without a blusher.

  • If your wedding theme is more vintage, a birdcage veil is the perfect hair accessory. When wearing a birdcage veil, make sure to set it off to the side of your head and drape it across your face diagonally so it doesn’t cover your lips.

To Do or Not Do an Up Do

When choosing whether or not to do an up do can depend a lot on the season of your wedding. If your wedding is in late spring or summer you may want to heavily consider an up do so that your hair is not on your neck all day during the heat and to avoid any possible frizziness that may occur from the humidity. Another thing you will want to keep in mind when selecting an up do is how it will look with a veil and without if you are planning on removing the veil for the reception. Adoring Your Hair With Flowers

If you are not the traditional bride who wants to wear a veil or a traditional up do, flowers may be the perfect addition to your wedding day look. When picking a flower, work with your florist to find a flower that will compliment the ones in your bouquet but will also stay fresh and vibrate throughout the whole wedding day.

The great thing about wearing fresh flowers in your hair is that they will add a touch of romance no matter the hairstyle you choose, up, down, or a mix. If you style your hair down you could wear a flower wreath or if you wear your hair up you could have your hairstylist weave the flowers into the up do so it looks like they were always meant to be there.
