Congratulations to Aaliyah and Ryan on their happily ever after! This gorgeous couple tied the knot in one of the most beautifully done weddings we have seen. Their love story is one filled with love, connection, and adventure! We cannot wait to share their love story and photos with you!Â
“It was great! I got my dress from the encore shop, but didn't feel like I had a diminished experience at all. I tried on many wonderful dresses and was able to take my time with all of them, with the help of my Mia Grace employee. She was very nice and went above and beyond to help me visualize myself in each gown and I love the dress I ended up getting, especially since it was so heavily discounted but still in amazing condition." - Aaliyah
Love Story
Aaliyah met when Ryan was living in Hawaii and Aaliyah was visiting with her mom to celebrate graduating college. On the day they were due to leave, they decided to grab some food from the Waikiki area and looked for a place to sit down and eat since the place they ordered from was standing room only. They walked down the street and saw a shave ice shop that was just opening. Since no one was inside, Aaliyah asked Ryan if they could sit in and eat, and he said yes. They were the only ones in the store and Aaliyah thought Ryan was cute, but since he was wearing a mask, it was hard to be sure. After a while, Aaliyah worked up some nerve to talk to Ryan and tried to order another shave ice (even though she had already ordered one!). While he was handing off the treat to Aaliyah, Ryan said "I just wanted to let you know that you're really gorgeous." Aaliyah asked for his number thinking it was just for fun since she was leaving and did not plan to come to Hawaii again any time soon. Aaliyah and her mom then left the store to walk around a bit and she started texting Ryan. They were getting to know each other and eventually, Aaliyah and her mom ended back up on the street where the shave ice shop was, and Ryan ran out and yelled her name. She stopped and her mom went back inside to have a seat and charge her phone. Ryan decided to go on his break and left his co-worker while he and Aaliyah started walking and talking with each other. They headed towards the beach and after learning a few things about each other they kissed! From there, they were both sad that Aaliyah was leaving, but they stayed in contact and started a long-distance relationship. After a year or so, Ryan broke his collarbone and could not work, so he quit his job, packed up and left beautiful Hawaii for not so pretty Missouri to be with Aaliyah in person while she finished out her medical degree!Â
Proposal
Ryan planned a surprise trip since Aaliyah had some time off of school to relax. Aaliyah had an inkling he was going to propose but was not sure how or when. The trip he planned was back to Hawaii where they had met. In preparation, Ryan had Aaliyah watch "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", and Aaliyah is notoriously bad at remembering movies, so this ultimately was not a helpful clue. When they got to Hawaii, Ryan had booked a suite at Turtle Bay Resort (which is where the movie was shot!) and it was very lovely. After a very fun and tiring tennis match one day at the hotel, Ryan told Aaliyah to get dressed so they could walk along the beach before dinner. Aaliyah was a little annoyed since she wore nice clothes, but enjoyed the beach, so it was fine. As they walked, they came across two women taking photos of the water. Ryan thought this was a good place to stop and Aaliyah thought they should keep walking to have some privacy. She looked away at a distant surfer Ryan pointed out, and when she turned back, he was on one knee, ring in hand! She said yes (obviously!), and it turned out that the women they were near were part of it. One was a photographer he had hired to appear like she was just a beach goer, and she brought her mom for fun! After the proposal, they took more fun photos and celebrated at dinner afterwards.Â
Wedding
Since Aaliyah and Ryan were married in Hawaii, they wanted to embody the tropical theme. They decided to go with bright, bold floral pieces as well as pops of color throughout the entire ceremony/reception site. Aaliyah and Ryan also wanted their love, and relationship highlights to shine through, so they had a lot of decors that really embodied their story.Â
Aaliyah looked stunning in her gown found at Mia Grace Encore! This, last of its style beautiful dress is completed with a tiered horsehair skirt and delicate detailing within the bodice. The pearl necklace Aaliyah styled with the look suites perfectly all while taking a unique twist of latest bridal trends. Overall Aaliyah looked incredible, and the dress suited her vision perfectly!Â
